Winter Golf Packages

11. November 2024

18th-Old-blog.jpg

Winter Golf Packages is a short golf blog post that looks at the yearly offer from the St Andrews Links Trust.

The St Andrews Links Trust was set up in 1974.  They run the links golf courses on behalf of the local residents.

Every year they put together several packages. These are aimed at visiting golfers from around the world.

During the winter months, they offer their Winter Golf Packages.

As I work in St Andrews for Premier Golf, I thought it would be a great idea to apply for a package for myself.

What is a Winter Golf Package and what do they include?

From November each year, the Links Trust starts its winter maintenance program.

Whilst this is on, they offer golf packages at a reduced rate because of all the work on the course.

These Packages only cost 230 pounds per Golfer.

I also have to state that the course maintenance made no difference to the golf or the experience.

Included in the package…

New Course Guaranteed Tee Time (18 Holes, Yardage Book, Scorecard and Pencil)
Jubilee Course Guaranteed Tee Time (18 Holes, Yardage Book, Scorecard and Pencil)
Old Course Guaranteed Tee Time  (18 Holes, Yardage Book, Scorecard and Pencil)
60 Range Balls
Food & Beverage Allowance worth 25 pounds per Golfer.
A customised engraved Bag Tag

All of the above for 230 pounds.

The Links Clubhouse

Inside the Links Clubhouse is a modern and friendly atmosphere.

On entering the clubhouse you are welcomed by the reception staff.

There is a small golf shop that sells logo clothing and a few logo accessories.

A staircase leads to the locker rooms and the Links attendants (Hire Clubs, Trollies etc)

The Tom Morris Bar & Grill serves all sorts of Fried Foods. Very few healthy options to choose from.

I did enjoy my morning Porridge because of its consistency and size.

I tried it the first day with Raspberry Jam but due to curiosity on the second day, I tried the Honey.

After our second day of golf, we decided to sit down and have a meal together because we were so hungry.

I had Tom’s Burger my wife had the Chicken Burger and my colleague had the Beer Battered Haddock.

(DM me for the results of that because I don’t want to publish that)

The Clubhouse Restaurant and Grill has lots of potential but that is certainly not being reached.

The Golfing Experience

As I have already mentioned, the golfing experience wasn’t dampened by the winter maintenance.

The weather was unbelievable for Scotland in November. No wind, no rain and 10° Celsius.

We played as a 2Ball on the New Course and the Jubilee Course which really slowed things down a little.

On the last day, we were paired up as a 4Ball which helped with the pace of play.

The New Course has lots of Bunker work on the go and the Jubilee Course also.

All of the courses have had work done on the greens but the ball was still rolling well.

The one course negative is the lack of toilets on the Jubilee and the lack of a halfway house.

All in all, a delightful experience.
