Top Five Quirky Holes in Golf is a short golf blog post that looks at some of the most stand-out golfing holes from around the world. Most golf holes are played and then over time they become forgotten. But there are a few holes out there that will stick in your head for a very long time. It is these kinds of holes that I will be looking at in this week’s golf blog. Legend Golf & Safari Resort, South Africa (19th Hole) 1410ft elevation drop After completing the 18th Hole you can choose to pay an extra 200. GBPs to play the 19th hole too. The 19th hole is a whopping 437 Yards Par3. It has an elevation drop of 1410ft from Tee to Green. It’s teeing ground is only reachable by helicopter and the ball flight can take up to 30 seconds to land. Dunkerque Golf Course, France (3rd Hole) Par3 136 yards This golf complex is set up with 3 loops of nine holes. Quite quirky teeing grounds and hazards that run parallel and square to the holes. A great contrast of holes with some very tight shots and even a few blind shots, to keep it interesting. Greens here tend to be quick as the course dies out often with the high winds that blow over. Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course, Idaho, USA (14th Hole) Par3 218 yards Wonderful lake views and challenging golf holes make this course a pleasure to play. The famous floating green hole can be anything from 90 – 220 yards depending on which tee you hit from and where the green is. That’s right, I did mean where the green is, as the green can be moved on an underwater pulley system. North Berwick, West Links, Scotland (13th Hole) This hole stands out from the rest as it has a stone wall traversing diagonally across the front of the green. Get too close to this and you will have no shot at all. Staying to the right-hand side of the hole off the tee will set up a good birdie chance. Riviera Country Club, California, USA (6th Hole) As far as I am aware, this is the only green in golf with a bunker in the middle. That makes this hole a quirky one and deserves a position on my list. What are your thoughts about Top Five Quirky Holes in Golf? Would you have a different list?
