The Senior Open 2024

The Senior Open 2024 is a short golf blog post that looks at one of the highlights of the so-called Legends Tour. Even after the Open Championship at Royal Troon, the excitement continues, but this time with with the golden oldies. You may think they are over the hill and not up to it with their aching joints and knee braces, but… They don’t call it the Legends Tour for nothing and their slogan, ‘Still Got It’ hits the nail on the head. The quality of golf is amazing to watch and is full of old-school technique at its very best. The History of the Tournament This tournament started in 1987 and was won by Neil Coles who picked up a prize cheque for 205,800 pounds. The Host Courses The first 4 years were played at Turnberry on the Ailsa Course and has since been back 3 times. Back then it was called the Senior British Open and is only played for by players over the age of 50 years. Other courses include: 6 times = Royal Portrush, Deluce Course. 5 times = Royal Lytham & St Annes. 4 times = Royal County Down, Sunningdale, Old Course, Royal Porthcawl, Carnoustie, Championship Course. 2 times = Royal Troon, Old Course. 1 time = Gleneagles, Kings Course, St Andrews, Old Course, Muirfield, Royal Birkdale, Walton Heath, Royal Aberdeen, Balgownie Course. Next year the tournament will be held at Sunningdale, Old Course which will be for the 5th time. The Winners Only 3 players have won this tournament more than twice, Both Gary Player and Tom Watson have won it 3 times. But out in front with an impressive 4 victories is the Legendary Bernhard Langer. This year’s winner with a total score of -10 and a prize cheque for 2850,000 was KJ Choi. Langer looks on as Lawrie sets up over the ball We went to Carnoustie with a backpack full of winter clothing and came back home with sunburn. What are your thoughts on The Senior Open 2024?
