The Latest Golfing Films and Series is a short golf blog post that reviews the latest releases, either out now or in the works. Not since The Phantom of the Open has golfing action been shown on the big screen, but this is about to change. Over the years, we have seen numerous classic golf films that have made us laugh and cry. The likes of The Caddy, Follow The Sun, Caddyshack, The Legend of Baggervance, A Stroke of Genius, Tin Cup, The Greatest Game Ever Played, Seve and Tommy’s Honour. The Latest Golfing Films and Series Already Out The Long Game This was released 2 years ago and was based on a 1950s true story. It starred Dennis Quaid and Cheech Marin from Tin Cup. The film is the story of the San Felipe Mustangs, a group of Mexicans in Del Rio, Texas. The group set out to play golf at a white country club in town to have a high school team. Despite prejudice and obstacles, the Mustangs succeeded in becoming the 1957 Texas state champions. Full Swing Season 2 This has been a great, behind-the-scenes look at some of the players on the PGA Tour. If you haven’t yet seen this series, I recommend that you do. Very well filmed and documented. The only problem I have with it is that it is very Rory-dominated. Coming Soon Stick This is a golfing-themed Apple TV series, which hits the screens on the 4th June 2025. It stars Owen Wilson as Pryce Cahill, a washed-up golf pro looking to turn his life around. He turns to a young, troubled teenager and stakes his future on the kid. This promises to be a warm, feel-good comedy with lots of names popping up. The likes of Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Max Homa, Trevor Immelman, Wyndham Clark and Jim Nantz all show up along the way. Happy Gilmore Happy Gilmore, which is probably everyone’s favourite, is about to return to our screens after nearly 30 years with a budget of over 30 million dollars. Adam Sandler’s sequel to the classic golfing comedy has finished filming and is expected to hit the screens on the 25th July 2025. The story is still a secret, but I’m sure that Happy will be up to his old tricks again. There are lots of celebrity cameos and returning stars from the original film, as well as new ones. The list is endless… Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Christopher McDonald, Eminem, Julie Bowen and Margaret Qualley. Golfing superstars like Tiger Woods, John Daly, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Bryson Dechambeau, Keegan Bradley & Xander Schauffele. Other golfing names like Tony Finau, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris will also star in the film. A few old golfing legends too, like Lee Trevino, Jack Nicklaus and Corey Pavin.
