The Fat Grips on the Block is a short golf blog post that takes an in-depth look at the new Fat Putter Grips that are slowly taking over.

It seems to me that the days of the old Traction Action Golf Pride ‘Pro Only’ putter grips are over, now the new grips are here.

So what is the big deal? Why are there so many tour players & top amateurs playing with these huge ugly-looking grips?

Fat Grip Benefits

There are a few good benefits to using a larger, thicker putter grip.
Firstly, it has been proven that anyone suffering from the Yips will have fewer problems, especially within 2 meters.
They help you to create a straighter, pendulum-style putting stroke.
Golfers will be much more accurate when using a thicker grip as it cuts down the unwanted use of the wrists.
Most golfers will also find that they are much more relaxed over their putts.
In a nutshell, there will be fewer stranglers out there and more Heroes on the Greens.

How to choose which Grip?
Sizes & Shapes

There are so many sizes of putter grip on the market, which one is right for you?
Great question. Before you dive in at the deep end and take the fattest grip, I would say STOP!
Go to your local PGA Golf Professional and ask for their advice.

There are several sizes to choose from including:
Standard Size
Midsize
Oversize

When it comes to putter grip shapes, there are 6 different variations out there including:

Circle
Oval
Flat Oval
Pistol
Flat Wide
Mod Pistol

If all of this is too overwhelming for you, then do not worry, there is help at hand.

Colour and Style

This is where you can get creative.
Choosing a colour, pattern or even personalisation will help you feel confident and putt better.

Price

The final factor to think about is your budget.
Putter grips range from 5 – 50 GBP. Choose wisely.
