Seaton House in St Andrews
25. März 2025

Seaton House in St Andrews is a short golf blog post that takes a look at the latest Hotel to open in the ‘Home of Golf’
So let me make a start by looking at the history of this magnificent building.
The History
This old Victorian Townhouse was built in 1864.
A neighbouring house was erected in 1880 and was a Boys School called ‘St Salvator’s)
The 2 buildings were bought and transformed into ‘Seaton House’.
In the 1930s, it became ‘The Scores Hotel’ and eventually became part of the Best Western chain of hotels, which had three restaurants named Alexander’s Restaurant, Champion’s Grill, and Chariot’s Bar.
‘The Scores’ closed in 2021
The Location
Seaton House is located in St Andrews, at the bottom of ‘The Scores’ road, opposite the R&A Clubhouse.
From the hotel, it is less than a 1-minute walk to the 1st tee and the 18th green of the world-famous ‘Old Course’
Restaurants & Bars
Inside the new hotel, you will find 2 restaurants and a bar.
The pinnacle of the F&B offerings will be found in the ‘Ondine Oyster & Grill‘ because they serve something special.
Seafood & Oysters are the stars of the show in this wonderful contemporary restaurant & Bar.
An alternative to the Seafood & Oysters can be found in ‘The Board Room‘
This is more casual dining with sharing boards of either Cheese, Charcuterie, Cheese & Charcuterie or Fish.
It also acts as the Breakfast Room.
My biggest bugbear is that the hotel promotes ‘Seasonal Scottish produce’ & ‘A true taste of Scotland’s natural larder’
Yet you can find Mango, Passion Fruit & Honeydew Melon among the ‘House Fruits’ at Breakfast.
There are lots of local Fruits & Berries that can be found in Scotland without sourcing from abroad.
Bow Butts Bar
This is an excellent bar due to its great atmosphere and an amazing selection of drinks, such as some of its whisky collection.
Check out the Highland Park 40-year-old Spring 2019 Release, it’s amazing because of its complexity.
It’s probably my favourite area in the hotel due to it being relaxing and it isn’t as loud as the Ondine Oyster & Grill.
Check out what they have to offer here.
