Putting with Tees

Putting with Tees is a short golf blog post that looks at different ways of improving your putting by just using tees.

There are thousands of training aids on the market that just focus on putting. Many of which are excellent.

The main problem with training aids is the cost. They range from around 10 Pounds up to thousands of pounds.

Every golfer has tees in their golf bag. Why part with good money on something that is going to sit in the corner and gather dust for a while?

I have lots of ways of improving your golf by just using tees, but now I will concentrate on your putting.

Putting with Tees
Around the Clock

Around the Clock

This is one of the best ways of improving your putting.
It is a simple exercise and too many golfers don’t do it.
Simply create a circle (clockface) with tees around the hole.
Each tee should be a club-length distance away from the hole.
Now try making every putt, one ball at a time, until all balls are holed.
But be warned, if you miss a putt, you have to start again.
Each time you try this out, keep a count of how many putts you made in concession.
If you have completed the first circle, why not try making a second circle of two club lengths?

Inline Putting

Inline Putting

This drill is only for golfers who attempt to swing the putter on a straight line or if they have a ‘face balanced’ putter.
For this drill, you will need to create a straight pathway to guide your putter.
The aim is to swing back and forth between the tees without touching them.
Start off easy by creating a wide path and slowly over time reduce the width to make it harder.

The Devils Drill

The Devils Drill

For this drill, you will need two small pieces of blu tack to stick two tees onto the clubface of your putter.
The tees should be just far enough apart that you can still putt a ball without making contact with the tees.
Again, you can start off easy and make it harder and harder.

Give each one a go and let me know how you get on.
