My Bucket List of Golf Courses – Part 2
11. Februar 2025

My Bucket List of Golf Courses – Part 2 is a short golf blog post that continues my list of courses that I would love to play. My last post has had some cool feedback, but there were some comments about missing Ireland and Northern Ireland out. So in no particular order, let me share my Bucket List of golf courses in Ireland & Northern Ireland I have had to make the Ireland list a top 10 list as there are so many courses to choose from. My Bucket List of Golf Courses – Part 2 Ireland Ballybunion – Old Course I managed to visit Ballybunion in March 2024 and it just soaked atmosphere. I was chomping at the bit to get out and play but sadly the Old Course wasn’t open. This has to be on top of my Bucket List for Ireland. Check out Ballybunion for yourself by clicking this link. Old Head Golf Links This place is stunning. Although, to be fair, all of the images that you see are looking towards the peninsula and not taken from the peninsula. In other words, it is more spectacular from the air than the land. The golf course itself is superb and they are constantly investing year after year. A thrill to visit and I can’t wait to return to play it. Have a look at this website to see what I mean. Waterville Golf Links Another favourite of mine is Waterville. It is a distance away from Killarney but well worth the drive. By far the best golf course – clubhouse combinations. The course is spectacular and the views from the clubhouse are awesome. This certainly deserves to be on my Bucket List. Take a look at their website by clicking here. Lahinch This is another course that should be on everyone’s list of courses to play. A magnificent course which has the surprise of a herd of Goats that roam freely. Superb views from the course. The clubhouse is excellent and don’t forget to check out the new academy with its state-of-the-art training facilities. You can view their website here. Rosapenna A stunning golf course and a great challenge for all. It deserves to be on my list of golf courses that I have to play. Three golf courses to choose from which include St Patrick’s Links, Old Tom Morris Links and Sandy Links. It’s St Patrick’s & Old Tom Morris for me. The accommodation here is great too. The clubhouse has choices of restaurants too. Check out the website here. Ballyliffin There are 2 championship courses at Ballyliffin, the Glashedy Course and the Old Course and also a 9-hole short course. I would love to play the Old Course, as it has more undulating fairways and looks a little tighter too. The dunes here are amazing to see. Have a peek at their website by using this link. Portmarnock After visiting here in March 2024, it left me itching to play it. I can’t wait to get a round in on the stunning course. The clubhouse is steeped in history and is very interesting to visit it. (Although like most golf courses in Ireland, there are too many connections to Rory) Check out their website here. Royal Dublin A secret favourite of mine after visiting here last year. The course meanders over a fantastic piece of land that is growing. That’s right, Bull Island is getting bigger! The clubhouse is very traditional with good food and views over the course. This is a must if you are in the Dublin area. Play early for a great deal on the green fee. Take a look for yourself. Enniscrone Another amazing-looking golf course that I have to play at some point. My mouth is already watering just thinking about it. There are 2 golf courses here, The Dunes Championship Course and the Scumore 9-hole course. I would play both, as I love a 9-hole course. Have a look at their website to get the juices running. European Club Jerry was right when I visited this golf course when he said you’re going to regret not playing the course. It was fantastic to see, but I wish I’d had my clubs with me. Just the bunkers alone were stunning. I can’t wait to go back here and play it. Although the website isn’t great, you can check it out here. My Bucket List of Golf Courses – Part 2 Northern Ireland Royal County Down The golf course and backdrop are breathtaking. It’s no wonder this place is nicknamed ‘Heaven on Earth’ Definitely on top of my Bucket List for Northern Ireland. I would love to return to RCD, but next time with my clubs ready. Check out the website here. Royal Portrush The home of the 2025 Open Championship, Royal Portrush is a true links course. Lots of high dunes and vistas of the water and mountains make it a real experience. You can find their website in this link. Portstewart This is high on my Bucket List when I return to Northern Ireland. A wonderful warm welcome, and an excellent clubhouse with stunning views. There are three fantastic golf courses, The Strand & The Old and The Riverside at Portstewart. I would love to play The Strand on my return visit. Check out their website here. Castlerock This is a course that I would classify as a hidden gem. Not many know about it, but when they play it they really enjoy it. Can’t wait to play this one. The first hole looks really inviting. Have a look at the website on this link. Ardglass The number one hidden gem in Northern Ireland, Ardglass has a friendly feel to it, yet the course is a great challenge. Wonderful sea views and testing golf with an awesome Halfway House. Lots of cash injections and course changes have made a huge difference to the experience. This is also the site of the World’s Oldest Clubhouse which dates back to 1405. Check out their website here.
