How To Setup Correctly
18. Juni 2024

How To Setup Correctly is a short golf blog post that looks at the right posture and positions needed for a perfect Setup. Are you a new / beginner looking for sound advice from someone with experience? Or are you an experienced golfer looking to improve to the next level? Either way, taking a look at your Setup is vital. Although it may feel awkward at first, the Setup is full of natural positions. We all want to set up correctly to improve our chance of creating a good, repetitive swing. Consistency is the name of the game in golf. Without a consistent Set Up, we cannot swing the club consistently. How To Setup Correctly Below is a list of points to follow, building blocks, starting from the ground up. When building anything, even the golf swing, you should always start at the bottom and work your way up. The following tips are based on using a 7 iron for a full swing. Feet Starting with your feet, they should be just less than shoulder-width apart. If you are physically fit, then you should try keeping your feet parallel to each other. When struggling to make a good turn, try pointing your toes out a little. Knees Your knees should be in line with your feet. They should be slightly flexed. Hips The hips should be in a neutral position. Not in a posterior or an anterior position. Looking from the front, they should be even at the same height. Back Your back should be leaning forward, but you should also try to maintain a relatively straight/neutral spine. The spine angle of an average tour player is 54ยฐ Arms The arms should be hanging naturally down from your shoulders. Hands The position of your hands should be below your shoulder, approximately a fist length away from your body. Head Your head should tilted slightly to help see the ball. Balance Try to maintain a good neutral balance. Your body weight should be 50-50 on both feet and 50-50 Heel to Toe. Conclusion Take a look at the 2 images. The first image shows a poor Setup whilst the next image shows a good Setup. Image 1 – Slumped shoulders, arched back, hands too low, knees too bent. Image 2 – Shaft angle optimised, hands below chin, knees slightly flexed, straight spine. What are your thoughts on How To Set Up Correctly? Please leave a comment by filling out a Contact Form.
