Golf in the Algarve

Golf in the Algarve is a short golf blog post that highlights the best golf courses and accommodations in the south of Portugal.
The southern area of Portugal has always been famous for its seafood restaurants, cliff tops and sandy beaches.
But did you know they also have some of the world’s top golf resorts featuring amazing golf courses?
Most seasoned golfers have heard of Vilamoura or even Penina Golf, but did you know that there are over 25 others to choose from? Portugal is on the rise again and it doesn’t look like slowing down soon.
There are plenty of organised trips to Portugal, but I think that I have found the best one available to all.
Below is a fantastic, recommended, first-time tour of the Algarve with Premier Golf.

Our tour is based at the luxurious Domes Lake Algarve resort, located in the well-heeled marina of Vilamoura, with bars, restaurants, and beaches to enjoy off the course. The resort includes a private seawater lake, gourmet restaurants, three pools, and a Soma Spa.
Sample Itinerary
1st Day
- Drive/Transfer from either Faro or Lisbon Airport, check in & explore the area before enjoying a low-key dinner at the hotel on us.
2nd Day
- Drive/Transfer to Golf at Dom Pedro Old Course near the resort, after which enjoy a lazy afternoon by the pool before dining at Casa do Lago restaurant.
3rd Day
- Drive/Transfer to Golf at Quinta do Lago North Course, after which pay a visit to the award-winning beach and enjoy a late lunch or early dinner at Gigi’s Beach restaurant
4th Day
- A day off from golf, why not hire bicycles and explore the Ria Formosa, arrive at Faro Island for lunch before heading back to Quinta for a well-earned rest, or a visit to The Paul McGinley Golf Academy for those who can’t put their clubs down.
5th Day
- Morning at leisure before a transfer/drive to Monte Rei Golf Club, a Nicklaus design and arguably the best course in the Algarve. Stay for dinner, and eat in their Michelin-starred Vistas Rui Silvestre restaurant before returning home.
6th Day
- Transfer/drive to golf at Quinta do Lago South, before having dinner at the incomparable Marufo’s Peri-Peri chicken shack… its messy work but it sure tastes good!
7th Day
- A day to either take in an additional round of golf, or maybe explore the area before picking up some traditional Portuguese terracotta, and enjoying your final meal at Bovino’s steakhouse.
8th Day
- Breakfast at the hotel, transfer/drive to Airport
